Goal! £10k Raised For Retina UK
5th May 2022
Local Barnsley footballing hero Bruce Dyer was an appropriate choice to present a cheque for £10K to Retina UK after one local window and door company finally reached its fundraising ‘goal’.
Euroglaze, a long-established manufacturer based on Barnsley’s Carlton Industrial Estate, raised the funds to mark its 40th anniversary, through a mix of raffles, fun days, cake sales, and even a virtual John O’Groats to Land’s End cycling challenge.
The sight loss charity Retina UK is especially close to everyone’s heart at the company because it helps to fund vital research into the kinds of eye diseases that caused the company’s Managing Director Martin Nettleton and his brother Simon to gradually lose their sight.
Bruce, who has the distinction of being the UK’s first £1m teenager, played for Barnsley from 1998 until 2003 and now spends his time coaching youngsters and running his own Love Live UK motivational soccer and sports camps across the area. He was quick to congratulate Nicky Park, who led the fundraising the campaign, and the whole Euroglaze team for their efforts, especially at a time when fundraising for many smaller charities has been so hit hard by the pandemic.
